Amble along to the nearby village at Messe or Chateaux at Les Chemereux taking in the beauty of the countryside. The nearby bar at ‘Etang de Marzelles’ plays host to regular evenings and a warm welcome from the local villagers. A must is the Tuesday morning market at Lezay just fifteen minutes away. Held in the village square, you’ll find regional fresh produce from many stalls, including fabulous oysters, shellfish, fish, cheeses, meats, wine, flowers and antiques.
The natural beauty of the Charente and the historic city of Poitiers with its shopping, sightseeing and wine routes are a short hop in the car. Poitiers has been the provincial capital since Gallo-Roman times and its architectural heritage is outstanding. The Chemins de Notre Dame will guide you through ancient neighbourhoods as you discover the city's historical treasures, shopping and restaurants at your own pace. Also very close by is the river Charente where you’ll discover places to picnic, sandy paddling and swimming areas, as well as bars and restaurants. We recommend you hire canoes at Aire de Rejallant, near Ruffec under 30 minutes away. There you can spend a few hours exploring this lovely river, winding through some of the most beautiful scenery. Alternatively take a day trip and visit the historic port of La Rochelle where you can combine a long, lazy-day on the beach with a visit to the town. There is an amazing aquarium, marina and harbour with some of the best restaurants and cuisine in France. La Rochelle also has some of the best shopping with fabulous boutiques set alongside chic bars. Also close is Futuroscope a state-of the-art media theme park and France's second biggest tourist attraction. Travel a little further and you can also sample the amazing flavours of Cognac and the wine regions of Bordeaux, the Loire Valley and the Dordogne.
